The Blood Test
After the easy steps of getting pregnant, peeing on a stick, and telling Jeff...I was dreading the next step...the blood test.
I absolutely can not stand blood or needles....so put them together and it is one of my worst nightmares. Yes I'm a huge weenie, but the thought of it gives me anxiety, makes me light-headed, and on occasions I have been known to wake up on the floor. I knew that I was going to have to become 'friendly' with blood tests and needles because well that is part of being pregnant.
I think I was especially dreading this blood test because of how they do it in the Army hospital. Let me give you a mental picture, they have a tiny room where there is like 6 chairs, and they call you in whenever the next chair is open (yes, you have to watch everyone else in the room give blood too), tie up your arm, stick you, and then you're out, and then they call the next person. The people that work there always tend to be cranky, and don't really care that "you don't do well with needles." I need that soothing person that tells me that 'it will be ok.' Nope, these people just care about getting people in and out.
Well I am proud to say that I put my big girl pants on and gave blood with no incidents.
4 hours later....I got the call...it was official...we were having a baby!

Surprise! You're going to be a daddy!
I decided awhile ago that if the situation presented itself, I wanted to surprise Jeff with the news we were pregnant. Now that I had this opportunity I had to find the perfect time and perfect way to tell him. I knew I couldn't tell him that night because he was going to have a late night at work...I couldn't tell him the following night because we had a Squadron FRG meeting...so it looked like Wednesday the 8th it was.
To set the scene, Wednesday morning I texted Jeff telling him I had an early Valentine's Day present for him and he HAD to open it tonight. He agreed. In a cute little box I wrapped up one of the digital pregnancy tests (of course I put the cap on and sanitized it...I'm not gross!). I prepared an amazing dinner of lobster tail and filet for him. I remember anxiously pacing around the kitchen waiting for him to get home...it was a mix of feeling of excitement and nervousness!
So the moment had come...I always wonder what was going through his mind before and while he was opening his present...did he have a clue of what he was about to discover?!
So glad I videotaped the moment...it was truly an incredible, emotional moment :)

Holy Crap...its Positive!
For those who have never taken a pregnancy test...there are no words to describe the anxiety you feel during those 2 minutes of waiting for the results. It is pure torture. A million and one thoughts were racing through my mind, half of me thought there was absolutely no way it would be positive, but the other half of me was like holy crap could I seriously be pregnant, how absolutely amazing would that be?!
Tick tock tick tock....
I decided to not jinx it and not peek until 2 minutes were up, when my timer went off...I took a deep breath and much to my surprise...there was a very clear, perfect, pink plus sign. HOLY CRAP.
After the initial shock wore off and I was able to process a clear thought, my first thought that it was to good to be true, there was no way we could be this lucky. Being the OCD me, I then proceeded back to CVS and bought almost $100 worth of all the name brand 'digital' tests they had to offer. And for the rest of the day I proceeded to take more pregnancy tests. It was such a rush to see "Pregnant" pop up on every single test. So as for as over-the-counter pregnancy tests were concerned....I was pregnant!!!

How it all went down...no not literally!
So as you know from my last post we decided to start seriously trying in April....well God had different plans for us. Little did we know, we apparently are both pretty fertile (high-five!), and I got pregnant ASAP.
We definitely did not think it would happen this quick because Jeff was gone a lot, and all in the middle of the month, so obviously we thought it would be physically impossible...nope, apparently all it took was one time.
I absolutely love the way it happened because there was no stress involved ( I tend to be a hypochondriac), no calendars, no trying to guess when that 'special time' was, and the best part about it, it was the most amazing surprise!
I started feeling really weird the end of January/beginning of February. The first time I actually got sick was Thursday the 2nd. Jeff was on staff duty so I brought him a delicious dinner of Zaxby's (for all you Northerns...its a fast-food chicken place...so good!). On the drive back home, I couldn't get home fast enough and almost got sick in our drive way...ok maybe I did a little. I chalked it up to food poisoning from our beloved Zaxby's. Saturday the 4th Jeff & I had planned to run a race in downtown Columbus...he was going to do the 10k, and I was going to do the 'fun run.' I still wasn't feeling awesome but I decided to suck it up....mostly because I wanted the cool t-shirt. Well I survived the run....I did terrible, but I made it. I then proceeded to keep running right to the restroom where I got sick again. At this point I'm thinking 'Wow I hate you Zaxby's."
February 6th marked a HUGE day. I started my new job (which is so incredibly amazing btw)..... I started the day with my head in the toilet...again, pulled myself together and had a pretty good day at work!
On the drive back from my first day the thought crossed my mind....could I be pregnant? A quick U-Turn to CVS I bought a pregnancy test.

The big question....when to start our family

Oh HEY!
Oh hey my poor neglected blog. I've realized that I get the blogging bug whenever something HUGE is going on in our life...and soo lazy when its just the day-to-day craziness.
So quick recap of the past year....YES we closed on our beautiful home April 21st, 2011...Lexi also turned 1 on that day, and is also my Mom's birthday, so overall awesome day!
We celebrated our 1 year anniversary....
We both turned a Quarter of a Century....
The year was sprinkled with amazing trips...FL to the beach and to Disney...
A 3,300 mile road trip North for Christmas where we had stops in 11 different states (not including all the ones we drove through)...
Went to a couple weddings...
Started a new job at Columbus State University, became an FRG Leader (all your Army folks are probably chuckling because you know how much insane work that is), and all the daily curveballs the Army has thrown us.
Oh....and one more thing.....WE ARE HAVING A BABY!
